September Second Fridays: Fantail Pigeons and Some Minor Mood Swings

September's round of Second Fridays goodness featured another night of unique revelry. We celebrated the opening of a new gallery and soaked up the musical performances on the street. Thankfully, the rain showers that danced around town failed to show up and wash away the great fun.

One of our favorite wild women, the unsinkable Molly, hosted the grand opening of her quirky and welcoming new studio and gallery. Much of her signature art adorned every space and her brother Kevin was part of the live music floating from the rear of the gallery. Molly made primo use of her window space: one side is a happily paint-splattered mini-studio where she can create in full view of passerby and the other features two of her beloved birds; a couple of gorgeous fantail pigeons. Congratulations, Molly!

We had dinner that night at Ventana Gourmet Grill with Betty, Ron and Kevin. Wendy entertained us as only she can, before serving up some fine edibles. I enjoyed a Cajun-seasoned New Orleans pasta of spaghetti tossed with lemon-pepper chicken, garlic, red onion and crushed red pepper. Keith indulged in the special; a creamy Crab Alfredo. Betty splurged on one of Ventana's killer desserts, their marvelous bread pudding. Lots of laughs with this eccentric crew.

Finally, we caught up with Daphne and Jim as the evening's primary musicians finished their last set. Miss Major and Her Minor Mood Swings rocked the lot, so to speak, and as always, bring a good time wherever they go. They've played a couple of times at the Missouri Wine Festival and always put on a terrific show.

All in all, another fine Second Fridays night of intriguing art, delectable food and excellent music.
