Corner Cafe

We've been in KC nearly six years and somehow had not made it to a Corner Cafe location. We ate at the original Corner Cafe in Riverside. Before the Corner Cafe opened, there was always some type of restaurant on "the corner" for over 50 years. When this one opened in 1983, it honored the history of the corner while creaing it's own identity. We have tried to stop in several times in the past but it seemed they always had a line out the door.

Today, we went early and only had a small wait. The place was still packed, though. We decided to choose some of the house favorites so Keith ordered their Biscuits and Gravy and I ordered the Gringo omelette. The food came quickly and soon we knew what all the fuss was about. Keith's biscuits were fluffy and covered with a silky, peppery gravy. The omelette was filled with green peppers, onions and Chorizo sausage and topped with melted pepperjack cheese and a tangy salsa. He had a side of crispy bacon and I had grits and what seemed to be homemade marbled rye toast. We got their signature cinnamon rolls to go. They were ginormous and heavenly.

We will definitely head back with friends and family.

And yes, Dylan the cat assisted in the writing of this post.
